Setting default program to view pics on PC?

Greetings…
How can I change the default program for viewing pics saved off of the internet on my PC. I am running Windows XP but whenever I try to open a pic I have saved to my hard drive it opens it using Nero Photosnap Viewer and I get an error message so I have to right click the image and go to “open with…” to see it. How can I make another program open the pic automaticaLLY WITHOUT DOING THIS?

1. Pull up My Computer
2. Right Click on any picture.
3. Click “properties”
4. Under the General tab, find the default program (there should be an icon of the default program) and click something with the reference to “Change”
5. Choose the program you want as the default
